Learning
At our school, we teach the NSW curriculum and offer many different subjects to support each student’s learning. We know that development of skills in literacy and numeracy are the building blocks for learning and for everyday life. Our teachers use effective teaching strategies to help students achieve their goals.
Why choose us for your child’s learning?
Strong foundations
Literacy and numeracy are the foundations of learning. We continually work to build skills of reading, writing and numeracy with whole school programs designed to explicitly teach essential skills across the curriculum. Our school subscribes to the Clarity program, a research based approach to learning. Teachers establish explicit learning goals and success criteria for every lesson so students are clear what is expected of them.
High-quality education
Our staff work to extend and deepen learning for our students. The academic curriculum is extended by way of excursions, extension and enrichment activities and a range of modes of learning. Our classrooms are well organised and learning is supported by a clear behaviour management program, Positive Behaviour for Learning, so that students can focus on their learning.
Inclusive and personalised learning
Relationships with students are very important to us. We want all our students to feel safe and secure at school. We adjust our teaching methods to ensure students of all abilities can achieve at their own level while still setting high expectations. Students can get extra support in literacy and numeracy with specialist staff. We offer a comprehensive pathways program for those students who wish to combine study and work and we endeavor to support all students with early intervention to improve learning opportunities.
Extension opportunities
Students are able to apply for the Aurora program at Guyra Central School through Aurora College, an online selective high school in New South Wales (NSW) for students in rural and remote areas. It provides online classes in English, mathematics, science and also offers a non-selective provision for year 11 and 12 students in remote communities. The program aims to give students access to specialised teachers band a unique educational experience through a mix of online lessons and face to face residential camps.
