Student opportunities and activities
At Guyra Central School, we offer a wide range of programs and experiences both in and beyond the classroom to help students develop skills, build positive relationships, and explore their interests.
Our programs include:
- School sport program across K-12, including Sporting Schools initiatives such as Premiers sporting challenge
- Athletics, swimming and cross country carnivals
- Inter-school competitions, including CHS knockout events and Central School carnivals across a variety of sports
- Opportunities to trial for North West sporting teams
- Agricultural competitions, including local and regional shows, prime livestock events including Northern Steer & lamb competitions, Dubbo Merino challenge, and Agricultural field days
- Creative and performing arts opportunities, including showcases and performances with biannual whole school musicals and Creative Arts Night. Students are also given opportunities to participate in Creative Arts displays such as: Dance Festival, CAPERS and School Spectacular. Aboriginal cultural initiatives, supporting connection to culture and community
- Excursions including trips to the theater, museums and field-studies
- Year group excursions - Lake Ainsworth, Coffs Harbour, Lightening Ridge, and Sydney.
- Incursions bringing engaging learning experiences to our school
- Lunchtime and interest-based clubs, chess, music, Lego, creative arts, gardening, religion and team sports
- Student leadership programs, including Student Representative Council and other leadership programs
- Debating, public speaking, mock-trials and spelling bee.
- Access to external agencies providing wellbeing and mental health support on site
- Community events, to show our dedication to students and their families such as Mothers day pamper sessions, Fathers day breakfast and celebrating Grandparents day.
- Work experience for years 9 & 10, VET industry placements for hands on learning
- Activities that support high potential and gifted learners through partnerships with Aurora College and UNE

Our extra-curricular highlights
Debating and public speaking
Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through debating and public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.
Creative and performing arts
Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.
Trips and excursions
Enables are students to explore and learn outside the classroom. They grow in confidence and make important connections with the community around us.
Indigenous Opportunities
We offer fantastic opportunities in the area of Indigenous Education. We have 2 outstanding Aboriginal Education Officers - Eunice & Tremane - who support our Indigenous students K-12. Our Aboriginal Studies classes in Year 8 and in Stage 5 are involved in a wide range of events and activities across the school and community. All of our teachers build Indigenous perspectives into their teaching and we celebrate Indigenous events like NAIDOC & Sorry Day during the year.
Student Interests/Clubs
Students have access to a wide range of clubs/activities based on their interest.
Agricultural Competitions
Students participate in various local and regional agricultural competitions.
Sporting activities
Sport is an important part of school life. It encourages participation, team work and social interaction. Sport is a major factor in maintaining a healthy level of activity for all our students
